Who should attend:
This session is aimed at health care professionals looking to gain a better understanding of cancer related cognitive impairment. An opportunity to learn basic skills to help address the symptoms with this patient group
Course Aims:
This lunchtime masterclass aims to enhance your knowledge on some of the mechanisms behind cancer related cognitive impairment (CRCI). We will also look at current research into CRCI including assessment tools, basic strategies and interventions to help patients manage their symptoms
Objectives:
- To understand the definition of cancer related cognitive impairment (CRCI)
- To be able to recognise the contributing factors and mechanisms associated with CRCI
- To have an awareness of current research relating to CRCI
- To have an awareness of the CRCI work at the Royal Marsden and the Emerging from the Haze Programme
- To learn a range of management strategies for supporting patients experiencing CRCI to optimise their independence and quality of life

Dr Sarah Stapleton

Sarah’s PhD explored the effects on cognitive function of new drugs given in experimental clinical trials. Her current work is looking at the effects of cancer immunotherapy on cognitive function and some of the psychological impacts on patients with cancer.
In 2021 Tamsin and Sarah were awarded funding for a project to increase education and awareness on CRCI and the Emerging from the Haze programme to patients and health care professionals.

Tamsin Longley

In 2018, Tamsin was awarded the Churchill Fellowship in order to gain a better understanding into the research and therapeutic interventions available for individuals experiencing cancer related cognitive impairment (CRCI) following cancer and cancer treatment.
Since 2021 and with support from the Royal Marsden cancer charity, Tamsin has been running an adapted UK version of the ‘Emerging from the HazeTM’ programme for patient’s experiencing CRCI, initially built by Dr Arash Asher at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, with promising results so far.
In 2021 Tamsin and Sarah were awarded funding for a project to increase education and awareness on CRCI and the Emerging from the Haze programme to patients and health care professionals.
