Respite for Good

Respite for Good

at The Hospice of St Francis

Respite for Good, in Berkhamsted, provides the same level of assurance and outstanding care standards our community has come to expect from The Hospice of St Francis over 46 years.

We provide short-term respite stays in comfortable on-site rooms for up to two weeks, supporting guests while giving family members and carers a break from day-to-day caring responsibilities.

Our respite care may be suitable if:

You rely on family or carers for help with everyday tasks and need a short break away from home.

You are recovering from a recent operation or hospital stay (such as joint replacements or repairs) and will need a period of recuperation.

You have a planned treatment coming up and would like to arrange support in advance.

You are a carer or family member seeking peace of mind that your loved one will be cared for while you are away.

Respite care isn’t just a pause – it’s an opportunity for guests to experience care, comfort and dignity, and for families to regain strength.

Unfortunately, we are unable to offer dementia care, medical/nursing care, or long-term stays as part of our respite care.

Guests should have capacity to make decisions and awareness of time and place, and be able to mobilise independently with or without aids or with the assistance of one person.

What or guests day...

If you want a quiet break with a lot of comfort, I recommend Respite for Good at The Hospice of St Francis. They make life so easy for you when you’re trying to relax.

The team have been very, very helpful. There are lots of people calling in, offering to do things, making sure I’m comfortable.

The food’s been superb. It’s an excellent location with the garden and walks, but the real benefit of staying here is that the staff are so dedicated.”  - Tim, guest

Everything about the Hospice of St Francis and Respite for Good has been splendid, particularly the aftercare I’ve been getting. The physio was wonderful, I’ve had hand and foot massages, and after nine days, I’m ready to go home feeling that much better.

Everything about Respite for Good is welcoming, calming and helpful to recovering. I couldn’t have asked for more.”  - Ian, guest
