Who should attend:
Open to all clinical staff who are interested in learning and developing their knowledge base on the management and rehabilitation considerations following breast cancer surgery and treatment.
This course is ideal for:
- Oncology and palliative care clinicians
- Nurses, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, and all allied health professionals
- General practitioners and community healthcare providers
- Medical trainees and students
- Anyone involved in oncology services
Course Aims:
To provide a comprehensive overview of the types of breast cancer surgery, side effects of surgery and other interventions such as radiotherapy, which may cause limitation to function. We hope to equip participants with the knowledge and skills required to understand the treatment and management of the side effects, in order to support, recover and empower patients to self-manage.
Objectives:
- To understand how the side-effects of radiotherapy can cause pain and limitation in function
- To explore the assessment, treatment and management of breast cancer patients post surgery and treatment
- To understand the pathophysiology of Axillary Web Syndrome (AWS) and management options
- To gain an understanding of the benefits of scar therapy to support functional recovery
- To understand the importance of exercise in the management of Breast Cancer patients

Working closely with the Oncology specialist interest group ACPOPC, sparked her interest in oncology and she has been working at The Hospice of St Francis since 2019 where she has developed a specialist in post-op breast cancer rehabilitation.
