Suzanne will be taking part in Bubble Rush with a team of over thirty people (Team Nic) in memory of her sister Nicola.
She explains why she supports The Hospice of St Francis ten years after her sister’s death:
“Nicola was twenty-five. She had two young children and was diagnosed with bowel cancer one month before she died. The Hospice was involved straightaway. They came to her house and got Nic a bed on the IPU. There were a lot of us with her – eleven throughout her time at the Hospice. We were all fed, watered and looked after. And we were allowed to stay which was fantastic. Nic’s children, Leah and Chris, said goodbye to her at the Hospice. They had care and counselling from the team afterwards.
"I support the Hospice because everybody should be able to have a death like that. Everyone was just so kind and respectful. You’re in lovely surroundings and nothing is too much trouble. It’s person-centred, not only for the patient but also for the family.
"Although we’ve fundraised for the Hospice before, this will be our first Bubble Rush. We’re doing it because Nicola’s children wanted to mark the 10 year anniversary of their mum’s passing. We love the fact that it’s inclusive because we have young children. Nicola’s children are decorating our Bubble Rush t-shirts.
"Nicola was fun. She was absolutely dedicated to her children. I think she would’ve enjoyed Bubble Rush – and we’re all planning to enjoy each other on the day.”
