We’re proud to introduce Tuscan-born Stefania – one of our Reiki volunteers at the Hospice. She has spent 35 years as an international hair and makeup artist from Paris to Barcelona, working with global icons in music and sport. For eight years, she was personal stylist to Lionel Messi and the Barcelona team.
However, behind the professional glamour, she always felt a deeper calling. “A lot of celebrities live very lonely lives,” Stefania explains. “I was often the closest person to them and was really taking care of their emotional wellbeing.” Coming from a line of healers and a culture that emphasises care within the family and community, she had always wanted to volunteer at a hospice in the cities in which she had lived. This opportunity became a reality after moving to Berkhamsted in 2012.
Reiki had really helped Stefania’s own healing journey and led to her becoming a practitioner. She now offers calm, relaxing sessions focusing on comfort and presence – especially meaningful when someone is living with pain. She also offers Trance Healing – a gentle, non-invasive practice to support a patient’s emotional and spiritual well-being. “Energetically, it’s one of the most beneficial things. I’m doing spirit work and it’s designed to support the recipient’s emotional, physical and spiritual well-being by allowing energy to flow where needed.”
As Volunteers’ Week approaches (June 1-7), we want to say a huge thank you to Stefania and every volunteer who helps make our Hospice a place of comfort and dignity. If you’ve ever wondered whether your time or skills could make a difference, please get in touch.
