Meet Abi – Social Worker
Since joining the Hospice in April, from a local authority, social worker Abi has brought deep compassion and a wealth of mental health experience to her role, supporting patients and families through complex personal journeys.
Abi works across the Inpatient Unit and the wider community, co-ordinating care planning. Her role is person-centred and holistic, addressing everything from housing, finances and equipment provision to family support and emotional wellbeing. She is guided by the individual’s needs and wishes.
Advocacy is central to Abi’s work. She noted: “Sometimes, people just need someone to fight their corner and speak up for them.” This is particularly true for family members bearing the palliative care burden. Challenges surrounding resources are persistent, yet when much-needed support is secured and positive outcomes achieved, Abi finds working as a member of the multi-disciplinary team really rewarding.
Abi’s continued dedication ensures patients and their families are not only cared for – but truly listened to and supported throughout their journey.
