Respite Care

Our respite care supports people who rely on family for help with everyday tasks and need a break away from home.

It can be perfect for someone who needs a period of recuperation or convalescence.

Guests are expected to be well and their condition stable. Personal health care needs cannot be such that require medical/nursing input on site, e.g Nurse led diabetes management, oxygen, or needing the support of more than one person to manage any mobility concerns.

Guests should have capacity to make decisions and awareness of time and place, and be able to mobilise independently with or without aids or with the assistance of one person. They will be able to self-medicate or accept medication via a healthcare assistant.  

A stay in our respite rooms is charged at £1,800 per week.

Supplementary wellbeing and physiotherapy services are chargeable, bookable upon request and subject to availability.

Absolutely. Our short-term stays are for one to two weeks. If you have any specific requests or would like to check dates and availability, please speak to our team.

On-site rooms are available for booking periods of one to two weeks.

These modern rooms combine comfort and safety with an adjustable bed, en-suite bathroom, call system, Wi-Fi/smart TV and nutritious home-cooked meals to create a relaxing environment. Further thoughtful touches like soft furnishings, views over the beautiful gardens and natural light ensure a sense of peace and calm.

Respite for Good is a trading name of Hospice of St Francis Trading Ltd (company number 06140240). All profits from trade go to The Hospice of St Francis (Berkhamsted) Ltd, registered charity number 280825.

To fund hospice care for more than 2,000 patients and families every year and keep pace with the increase in referrals every year, we need to raise at least £6 million every year. We receive just over £1m from the NHS. Being able to give regularly to charity is much harder for many people now. Donations alone cannot fund the Hospice care we need. Profits from Respite for Good will help to fund hospice care.

Respite for Good reflects a growing need for flexible care options. By offering respite care in dedicated rooms, The Hospice of St Francis can generate additional income to help fund its core mission – sustaining and strengthening free hospice care. This innovative approach will help secure the future of compassionate care in our community.
