Our Care

We can help you if you are managing, or recovering from, serious illness. We help you to live your life well by improving symptoms, working with you to achieve personal goals - helping you to feel safe - and anything from getting back to work, enjoying family time to walking the dogs again.

Our care takes many forms and our professional team plus dedicated, trained volunteers care for people with a wide range of illnesses including cancer, motor neurone disease, dementia, heart disease, lung disease and neurological illness.

We can help you in your own home or here at the Hospice through 1:1 appointments or group sessions (anything from physio to nursing support and mindfulness to complementary therapy) in our Spring Centre or through 24-7 care in our beds.

Outstanding Local Care

Throughout everything, our ethos is always to provide exceptional care - an ambition recognised by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), the independent regulator of health and adult social care in England, who awarded us an ‘Outstanding’ rating in 2016.

Based in beautiful surroundings just outside Berkhamsted, our care is provided completely free and we look after people in Hemel Hempstead, Berkhamsted, St Albans, Harpenden, The Chalfonts, Chesham, Amersham and everywhere in between. We also support people in local hospitals and care homes.

The Hospice is also here for family, friends and carers. We can advise you if you’re worried about a loved one and also offer support for you. This may include recommending group activities, supporting children through a close relative’s illness or providing practical support and advice if you’re a carer.

We’re here for you if you need us, so do fill in our confidential self-referral form or give us a ring on 01442 869550. We aim to respond to you within 48 hours. Alternatively, do speak to your GP who can also refer you to our services. You can also drop by Monday – Friday, 9am - 5pm, to speak to a team member although it is best to ring first to secure an appointment.
