This event has expired.
This event was established during the restrictions of lockdown...but with those restrictions came the opportunity to develop a new found appreciation for our local area and the beauty that we are surrounded by!
The beautiful 26.2 mile route will start in Princes Risborough and meanders through ancient woodland, and open countryside to Wendover, this is where the Half Marathon route will begin. Both routes will take you through Tring Park and finally onto an impressive finish at Ivinghoe Beacon.
The marathon distance will also include a visit to The Hospice of St Francis to see our wonderful gardens.
We'll be asking all walkers to raise a minimum of £46 to support services such as our wellbeing team. £46 can fund two much needed 1-2-1 exercise sessions or relaxation activities for a patient.
Do you want to push yourself even further by walking the full Ridgeway route? Your challenge would begin on Wednesday 26th June and you will be walking approximately 17 miles per day across five days, with your final day coinciding with our popular Walk Your Ridgeway event on Sunday 30th June.
By registering online you agree to and acknowledge the following:
The Ridgeway follows ancient track and trails, it is undulating - but believe us when we say that the hills are well worth the views! This event is open to everyone and is not timed, we welcome participants of all abilities and think this will be a wonderful way to experience this stunning route in a relaxed and friendly way. The main thing to bear in mind is being on your feet for approximately 8-10 hours. With a little bit of walking under your belt and an enthusiastic attitude we’re sure you’ll have a great day out exploring!
CloseThere will not be any parking available as this is a linear route. There are two small carparks where you can be dropped off at the start and collected at the finish. We advise carsharing where possible.
CloseNo, you can simply carry on the Ridgeway trail rather than come off at Wigginton. Please still sign up for the Marathon Distance and notify the marshals at the Wigginton check point. In terms of distance you will still be walking roughly 18 miles.
CloseFamilies are welcome, please note it is a long day of physical activity, children (up to age of 17) must be accompanied by a participating adult. One participating adult may take responsibility for up to three under 17 year olds.
CloseWe would recommend walking boots but if the trail remains hard and dry then a good pair of trail running trainers would also suffice. Remember, whatever you choose to walk in should be familiar to your feet – blisters from brand new shoes can ruin even the best day out on the trails!
CloseAs the Ridgeway is beautifully maintained by the National Trust the entire route is fantastically marked, meaning that although we will provide you with a basic map, it’s unlikely you will need it! Simply look for the ‘Ridgeway’ sign posts or black acorns and you’ll be sure to keep on the right path.
The route is open to the general public and crosses other footpaths, roads and bridleways so be sure to keep an eye out to ensure you don’t stray off the Ridgeway path! We will have the route well marshalled and there will be check points so it will be hard to get lost!
CloseYes. Walk Your Ridgeway event is designed to be a rustic local adventure! As you will be out all day we would advise you bring a packed lunch, sugary treats for energy and at least 500ml-1 litre of water. There will be additional water and light refreshments available at our check points.
Please always be respectful of other countryside users and always take your litter with you and we can dispose of it at the next checkpoint.
CloseOf course we are always hopeful for good weather for all our outdoor events, but with the great British weather you never know! In a small rucksack we would advise you carry a waterproof jacket, a long-sleeved top, sun hat and sun lotion to cover all weather conditions! A check list of what to take will be provided.
CloseWell behaved dogs are welcome, providing they are capable of completing the distance. Owners are responsible for clearing up after their dog, keeping them on lead through any livestock fields and carrying enough water for them. Please also consider the weather on the day, large parts of the Ridgeway is in shady woodland but there are some exposed climbs and open countryside which can be very warm for dogs.
