John Tooley's Story | The Hospice of St. Francis

John Tooley's Story

“I feel privileged to be in here”

When John was first admitted to the Hospice’s Inpatient Unit almost three weeks ago he couldn’t sit down because “there was just too much pain.”

Living with rectal cancer, John explains that it was “a relief to come into the Hospice.”

“The Hospice team have been able to get on top of my medication, trying different combinations.”

“I’ve been able to walk round the grounds, I’m able to walk up and down the stairs. At home I could do stairs, but by the sixth step I was in so much pain.”

“Nothing here is too much trouble, everyone is so nice. I feel privileged to be in here.”

Describing the Hospice, John shares, “If they have a bed available, go ahead. The Hospice is second to none.”

80-year-old John, a great-grandfather, is due to be discharged, returning home.
