Originally from Yorkshire but now living in Berkhamsted. She joined us in July and is currently studying Counselling alongside her role. We find out more about how she came to find the role and a little more about what she does at our award-winning gift shop...

“I found out about the job in May, having just learnt about the impending closure of the shop I was then managing, Soden Style in Berkhamsted. It feels rather a lot like my fortunate fate to have received a call from the Hospices Head of Trading asking if I would be interested in meeting to discuss joining the team. Yes, please and thank you all for accepting me on board!

My meeting and second interview at the Hospice was a little nerve-racking as my gorgeous Aunty had died recently and I was aware that I was grieving. I need not have worried. Everything and everyone was light, bright and superbly kind. I left feeling uplifted, inspired and oh, so hopeful for an opportunity to support this truly amazing charity in the best way I can. It’s the most beautiful place, with the kindest volunteers and, lucky me. I got the job; I cried (joyously)!

My new role as Shop Manager is divinely different and diverse. My life passions: people and product, are at the core of everything I do day to day. I spend as much time as I can engaging in volunteer and customer conversation. Everyone has a story and I just adore listening to them all.  When I am not chatting, I am supporting our Visual Merchandiser prettify the shop and am delighted to be involved in selecting new goodies to bring in to sell at number twenty.

Since meeting my wonderful team, I’ve felt so welcomed, supported, inspired and involved. I am oh, so grateful for this and I’m daily astounded that have such outstanding, brilliant and inspiring volunteers. I love their stories and insights into life and living: We are nothing without our fantastic volunteers. Thank you all for giving up your time. This shines from all of my heart.

You guys; our awesome customers! I hope you know what you do for the Hospice when you shop with number twenty. It’s mega; needed and appreciated. Thank you! I’ve met some of you, and I hope you know how special you are. I can’t wait to meet more of you and welcome new faces, and of course repeat supporters.

With Christmas on the horizon, we have had a huge delivery of gorgeous giftware and sparkly décor. We can’t wait to reveal it to you all. In the meantime, I am working on my gift wrapping!

I’ve laughed a lot already in my short time at the shop. My favourite moment so far had been someone telling me the shop feels like a social hub; a lovely place to hang out. I love that. I’m in the right place. I and the whole team at number twenty can’t wait to see you again soon. Please visit us soon!”

If you’d like to volunteer at our Berkhamsted gift shop please get in touch! Please email volunteering@stfrancis.org.uk or call 01442 869550, or visit the shop and chat to a member of the team, to learn more! DofE students welcome!
