“I am very proud to work for the Hospice raising valuable funds.

The Abbots shop has been trading for about 25 years and was the first  of all the Hospice shops to open.

We offer a warm welcome and we are a true community shop, known locally as The Harrods of Abbots Langley! We have a fabulous team supported by our wonderful volunteers. Not only do they make this such a fun place to work, they also bring with them a wonderful range of retail experience.”

Meet Trevor, Shop Manager at our Abbots Langley Hospice shop. He has worked within the Hospice Trading team for over eight years. His hobbies are Classic Car Shows, family days out and eating out at yummy restaurants. He also has two daughters age 17 and 20 and is expecting a baby with his partner, Yearun, in July.

“I owned my own Telecoms company from the age of 18, but in 2011 we closed due to the financial climate. After this I decided to volunteer for Keech Hospice. I really enjoyed the spirt of the charity shop world and felt that my experience in retail would be a real asset to the sector. I then applied for the Mangers position at the old Hospice shop in Harpenden on a six-month contract.

Following this I took on the role of Relief Manager across all the shops, before becoming the Shop Manager at Abbots. I do still support the other shops one day a week as and when required.

I love what I do. I love the ever-changing world of Charity retail, of which The Hospice of St Francis is at the forefront.

Alongside my Deputy, my role in the shop is to manage our team of 30 Volunteers and create a wonderful retail experience for our lovely customers. The shop changes daily with new window displays and stock rotation.

We have loyal customers who love to support us by popping in every day. We always have a cup of coffee ready for them and a hot water bottle if they suffer from the cold. We love the donations we receive both from our community in Abbots and further afield! They are what drive the shop with beautiful stock.

Promoting the Hospice is very important and the wonderful work they do! I love creating social media posts and promoting our wonderful stock.

My favourite part of my role is the community and customer engagement. I absolutely love the relationships we have all forged. I love that we provide the local community with great prices and goods and keeping those in need warm! In return, the community support us with fabulous donations! I also love the wonderful cakes and sausage rolls the volunteers bring in most days, especially on a Tuesday when we have Simmonds special treat… Cakes, Cakes, Cakes!

My favourite memory would be the recent Fashion Show. I loved it! Dressed to impress and hitting the catwalk! The support from the audience was utterly fantastic. It was such a wonderful fundraiser and a great crowd pleaser.
