(Shops trade 7 days per week)

hourly Rate : £ 12.12

The challenge 

Our Despatch and Delivery Drivers makes a difference every single day.  It is a role for a competent, experienced driver with a clean Driving Licence who transports donations to keep our sales moving 52 weeks of the year.  The Hospice of St Francis is award-winning retailer, and every sale helps to fund our care.

Hardworking, resilient and people focused, you’ll be collecting and dispatching, loading/unloading a range of goods from clothes and household items, furniture to artwork, ensuring great care is put into the safe journey of every item.

Today our free care supports 2,000 local people and their families, in Herts and Bucks. We truly are a community hospice
– built and funded by the community, to serve the community.

Our customers, donors and suppliers love our values driven aspirational retail experience; the opportunity to support local makers and a combination of new and upcycled goods to restyle their life, supporting the Hospice with every purchase and donation.

People are at the heart of everything we do. And you would be no different. We are all vital cogs in delivering our care and support.

 

  • Drive the Hospice van safely to assure an efficient and effective dispatch service, supporting your managers to ensure we plan cost effective routes.
  • Collect and deliver goods to and from  the homes of donors and buyers to our shops and/or our Online Hub
  • Provide excellent customer service, clear and friendly communication, at all times in line with Hospice values.
  • Ensure that collections from donors meet Hospice standards of promptness and efficiency, when necessary using tact and sensitivity to explain which items The Hospice can take to sell on, whilst showing appreciation at all times.
  • Support shop teams with moving furniture on the shop floor and helping with preparation for events, workshops and promotions

  • Current Clean Driving Licence (held for at least five years) with permission to drive light commercial vehicles and motorcars
  • Previous employment as a driver
  • Tact, diplomacy and great customer service
  • Flexibility and a ‘can do’ approach
  • Excellent navigation skills
  • Attention to detail, care and respect for people and objects including when working under pressure
  • Good General Education, Mathematics and English GCSE desirable
  • Positivity, highly self-motivated and an effective team player
  • Resilient and Hardworking with proven willingness to go the extra mile

  • Experience in removals
  • Lifting and handling training
  • Practical with good DIY skills
  • Can communicate in more than one language relevant to population served (desirable)
  • Respect and follow the Hospice’s values.
  • Your internal & external contacts will include all Employees, Volunteers, Trustees and Patrons, plus members of the general public and external organisations/suppliers.
  • The post-holder will come into contact with emotional circumstances, through speaking to staff, volunteers and patients and or information. The post holder will frequently be required to change from one activity to another to meet the changing needs of the service
  • You will be expected to comply with Health and Safety, Fire and Infection Control regulations and Hospice policies. You will need to complete all mandatory training.
  • Safeguarding: Act in a manner at all times to safeguard the interests of individual patients/clients and their families and justify public trust and confidence in the Hospice of St Francis
