We were happy to welcome Roland Minder with a cheque for £1,450 raised at a fun, wine-filled evening in Potten End. In memory of his wife, Juliet, and to continue to support The Hospice’s wonderful work Roland called on neighbours and friends to test their knowledge (or lack of) about wine.
On July 6th (one of the hottest days of the year), 90 generous Potten Enders got together at Potten End School Hall to drink wine for charity – a really tough call! The event was called “Would I Lie To You About Wine?” which is based on the TV game “Would I Lie To You?” (or “Call My Bluff” as it was once known). In Potten End, everyone in the room was poured a glass of mystery wine and three Bluffers then tried to persuade the crowd that their description of the wine they were drinking was true. There were 5 different wines to taste and identify which explains why the night was so merry!
Roland said, “preparations for the event started on the day of the Royal Wedding when Sara Raybould and Andy Smith kindly took us on our booze-buying trip to Calais and helpfully offered to carry the 70 bottles of wine. Then we launched our search for some convincing liars to act as bluffers - Simon Tooley from Frithsden Vineyard and the BBC food and wine broadcaster Nigel Barden did the honours along with Clare Davison. It was great fun trying to work out who was bluffing and who wasn’t.”
The evening was a huge success and lots of fun was had by all. A huge thank you to all concerned, especially Roland and his helpers Sara and Andy and those who contributed so generously to the raffle and auction. A big thank you also to Potten End School Hall for kindly hosting the event.
We love the idea of supporters getting together in fun and innovative ways to enjoy themselves and raise money for us. If you would like to fundraise for us with your own idea and need some support, please contact the Fundraising Team on 01442 869555 or email email@example.com
