Art for Wellbeing
The Hospice of St Francis continues to use the arts to promote patient wellbeing at the same time as widening access to the therapeutic power of music and art for everyone in our local community.
Creative therapies allow the expression of thoughts and feelings that may
be more di cult to
convey in words.
They also provide a space
for re ection, inspiration and can help build resilience for those living with or caring for someone with a serious illness.
Every rst Monday of the month, we host an Open Studios afternoon (open to all) at our health and well-being Spring Centre, focusing on a di erent art medium each month and featuring a visit from a local artist.
We are two months into our second annual Art Bag Project, a collaborative initiative with Peace Hospice Care and Macmillan, inviting the public to ‘carve out a space and time for themselves’ by completing a simple soap carving project.
The soap can be transformed into anything from owers and faces to shapes and animals and o ers a simple therapeutic activity, which promotes wellbeing and relaxation.
We also run one-to-one art psychotherapy sessions for patients, supporting them to use artwork to explore and process di cult emotions.
