On 13th & 14th July 2013, I competed in a Race to the Stones, a 100km off road ultra-marathon set on the oldest and arguably most beautiful path in Britain; the Ridgeway. The route meandered from Chinnor in Oxfordshire, through Berkshire and finished at the 3,000 year old stones at Aylesbury. It was a tough challenge and the hottest weekend of the year, but I did it in 25hrs 46min & 52sec, coming 166 out of 175. Only 60% of the contestants completed the two day challenge.
I did it in memory of my wonderful Dad, William, who I lost to cancer in January 2011, he would be proud. The Hospice of St Francis was my chosen charity to raise funds for. Even though the Hospice did not care for my Father, it has helped me in my grief. I am a regular volunteer at Returned To Glory, which is the fabulous Home Store Showroom & Donation Centre in Berkhamsted.
I have been a volunteer there since I relocated to Berkhamsted in October 2012. It is such a positive environment to work in and it gives me great pleasure working there. I meet and help so many customers, who have been touch by the Hospice in one way or another. To date I have raised £440 for the Hospice, which makes me very proud. Thanks to all my friends, family and customers who supported me.
