Frocks out for the Wedding Dress Ball!

24 September 2019

Are you desperate for the chance to wear your wedding dress again or do you cringe at the thought of that dated style? Whatever ‘wedding’ says to you, The Wedding Dress Ball 2019 in aid of The Hospice of St Francis is back and it’s not to be missed!

This spectacular evening is the perfect opportunity to dust off your wedding glam and get frocked for a good cause at Shendish Manor in Apsley on Saturday 28th September.

There’ll be dinner, drinks and plenty of dancing so whether you’re newlywed and living happily ever after, long-term partners, single, separated or just up for a laugh, invite your loved ones to relive precious memories of your special day and make new ones together.

Full time mum Belinda McGinley, 42, Berkhamsted, is looking forward to going with nine of her girlfriends. “We can't wait to bring our wedding dresses out of the loft - hoping they still fit! - and to have fun together in support of such an amazing charity as the Hospice.

“One of my friends – who is also attending the Ball, experienced the great care of the Hospice when her father was being looked after there. She actually got married at Shendish Manor too.”

The bi-ennial Ball has been organised by a six-strong group of friends from Berkhamsted and two years ago, when it was first launched, it raised a phenomenal £17,000.

Kate Rogers, a member of the organising committee, said, “We enjoyed the Wedding Dress Ball so much last time that we’re going again! It was such a wonderful opportunity to wear my dress again and really good fun to look at other people’s dresses! This time I’m going for a completely different look though and will be rocking up in a bridesmaid dress I bought in a local charity shop!”

Ruth Peters-Train, a fellow committee member, adds, “Having had so much fun last time, I’ve started trawling the charity shops once again for a wedding dress and successfully got myself yet another bargain! I can’t wait to wear it - any excuse!”

Lucy Hume, Head of Community Fundraising at the Hospice, said, “We are so excited and grateful to the committee for their support and for organising and staging the Wedding Dress Ball again this September.

“We all know how expensive weddings can be, whether you’re the bride, bridesmaid or a guest, which is why we want to give people the opportunity to wear their favourite wedding outfit again and have a fabulous, fun night out too - all for an amazing local charity.”

Snap up your tickets today from the Hospice website at stfrancis.org.uk/wedding - the £65 price includes a welcome glass of fizz, three-course meal, DJ and dancing. All proceeds will help the Hospice raise the over £5m it needs every year to help people facing life-limiting illness to live their precious lives well across West Herts and South Bucks.
