The Hospice of St Francis is inviting local people and art lovers to come along to an exhibition of local artwork over the weekend of 7-8 July.
It is the third year that the Hospice has hosted the ‘Art at the Heart’ exhibition at its Spring Centre, which this year features work from more than 20 local artists.
A variety of hung art work – including landscapes, seascapes, London scenes, abstract and photographs – will be on display, as well as table top sales of ceramics, jewellery and glass work. A percentage of all sales will go to the Hospice.
For the first time ‘Art at the (Little) Heart’ will be held on Saturday 7 July from 10am-1pm with craft activities for children and storytelling for families in the Hospice’s Woodland Garden. There will also be an exhibition of artwork from local schools, including Egerton-Rothesay, Thomas Coram, St Mary’s Primary, Bridgewater Primary and Grove Road Primary.
Throughout the weekend there will be a display of work from this year’s community Art Bag Project, entitled ‘Drawing Out a New Narrative’, in which participants were provided with all the materials needed to transform the pages of old and worn books either by drawing over the existing text or reshaping them into something new.
On Sunday 8 July, people are invited to bring along a picnic and relax in the gardens of the Hospice while listening to music from the Secondary Modern Jazz group.
Ray Ashley-Brown, Head of Spiritual Care at the Hospice, said: “We are looking forward to welcoming people from the local area who might have heard about the Hospice but who may not have been up to the Hospice before and introducing them to the work that we do.
“The idea behind the exhibition is to build links with our community and showcase some of the therapeutic artwork we do at the Hospice. We hope as many people as possible will join us for what promises to be an thoroughly enjoyable weekend.”
The Art at the Heart exhibition runs from 10am-4pm on Saturday 7 July and Sunday 8 July at The Hospice of St Francis, Spring Garden Lane, Berkhamsted, HP4 3GW. Free parking is available at the Hospice. Suggested entry donation is £2 and refreshments will be available.
