Carers Pamper Day

27 May 2016

Carers across Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire are invited to a special Carers’ Pamper Day in the beautiful grounds of the Hospice of St Francis on Friday 10th June 2015 from 2 – 4.30pm.

Taking place during Carers Week (6 -12th June), which this year has a focus of building carer friendly communities, the event is free and open to all carers who support a relative or friend with a life-limiting illness.

There’ll be a chance to enjoy tea and cake on our lawns, enjoy pilates sessions and visit carers’ information stalls from local organisations like Carers in Bucks and Herts.

They’ll also be craft, gift, jewellery and plant stalls and live music.

The Berkhamsted-based Hospice supports over 100 carers from across the area, offering workshops, courses and social groups, as well as respite support for carers through a Carer support volunteer visiting scheme.

Around 25 volunteers spend time visiting a patient, sitting with them, reading, playing Scrabble, helping them use a computer or to complete an activity they’d like to do. This is arranged to allow time for a carer to go shopping, enjoy a hobby or meet friends and family.

Local carer Rachel, who attended last year, commented, “Being surrounded by fellow carers at last year’s Pamper Day showed me that I wasn’t alone and helped me put my life into perspective. I really enjoyed the special event. It was so nice to be cared about!”

The Hospice is also running various courses for Carers at its Spring Centre during the summer, which include:

  • Care towards the end of life       Monday 6th June 10.30-12 for 6 weeks
  • First Aid course                                                September 2016

“Carers work so hard and deserve some pampering,” says Claire Hewitt, Carer Support Coordinator at the Hospice’s Spring Centre.

“We hope that finding an hour or two to come to our Pamper afternoon will be relaxing and provide carers with some rejuvenating me-time. Anyone who’s caring for someone - under the care of the Hospice or in the community – is welcome and can bring the person they care for, a neighbour or a friend. I’d also encourage carers to check out our on-going Spring Centre programme to see if there are any forthcoming carers’ workshops they’d like to access.”

To reserve a place at the Carers’ Pamper Day or to book any of these courses, please call the Spring Centre on 01442 869550 or email: springcentre@stfrancis.org.uk
