Hospice seeks new Treasurer to join Board

15 October 2015

We are recruiting for a new Treasurer to join our Board of Trustees. The Board currently consists of 12 members from a variety of backgrounds who develop the Hospice’s strategy and work with the Hospice management to meet agreed objectives.

We need to raise over £4.8m million a year, and with only around 20% of its costs being met by the NHS, it is vital that the Board finds a candidate with specific expertise to help in these challenging economic times.

The new Treasurer will be a qualified accountant who has worked in a senior finance role and have had an extensive career in financial management.

Outgoing Treasurer, Alison Woodhams, who worked in senior roles at the BBC and University College London and will take over as Chair of the Board of Trustees early next year, comments, "I became involved with the Hospice because of the outstanding care my father received towards the end of his life from his local hospice.

“Being on the Board has given me the opportunity to use my financial management skills and expertise, as well as my knowledge of the not for profit sector, to contribute to the development of the Hospice’s strategy.

“I am proud to take on the role as Chair of Trustees to continue shaping the future of an organisation that delivers excellent end of life care.  I'd really urge anyone with senior financial qualifications and experience to get involved."

The Board of Trustees meets six times a year, usually on a Monday evening, with an annual conference on a Saturday to review strategy and performance. In addition, trustees are asked to serve on Board Committees which involves attending additional meetings throughout the year. In the case of the Treasurer position, this includes chairing the Finance & Fundraising Committee. The posts are voluntary but expenses are paid.

Interested candidates should contact Clare Miles, Company Secretary, for further information or to register their interest.  Suitable candidates will be invited for a confidential, no-obligation discussion about the role.  Clare can be reached on 01442 869556/ E:clare.miles@stfrancis.org.uk
