Local Carers Invited to Pamper Day

21 May 2015

Carers in Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire are invited to a special Carers Pamper Afternoon in the beautiful grounds of The Hospice of St Francis on Friday 12th June 2015 2 – 4:30pm.

Taking place in Carers Week (8-14 June), the Pamper afternoon is free and open to all carers who support a relative or friend. There’s a chance to enjoy treats like tea and cakes on the lawns, relaxation sessions, mini-manicures and a haircut or browse the craft and gift stalls, whilst listening to the sound of live entertainment from The Jolly Jazzers.

Local carer Rachel, who attended last year, commented, “Being surrounded by fellow carers at last year’s Pamper Day showed me that I wasn’t alone and helped me put my life into perspective. I really enjoyed the special event. It was so nice to be cared about!”

The Berkhamsted-based Hospice supports over 100 carers from across the area offering workshops, courses and social groups, as well as respite support for carers through a Carer support volunteer visiting scheme. 25 volunteers spend time visiting a patient, to read with them or help them use a computer or to complete an activity they would like to do. This is arranged to allow time for a carer to go shopping, enjoy a hobby or meet friends and family.

The Hospice is also running various courses for Carers at its Spring Centre during the summer which include:

Caring with confidence - Monday 1st June 10-1pm, for 5 weeks

      First Aid course Wednesday - 8th July 10am – 12.30pm

Care towards the end of life - Tuesday 1st Sept 2-4pm for 6 weeks

“Carers work so hard and deserve some pampering,” says Claire Hewitt, Carer Support Coordinator at the Hospice’s Spring Centre.

“We hope that finding an hour or two to come to our Pamper afternoon will be relaxing and provide carers with some rejuvenating me-time. Anyone who is caring for someone - under the care of the Hospice or in the community – is welcome and can bring a patient, neighbour or friend. I’d also encourage carers to check out our on-going Spring Centre programme to see if there are any forthcoming carers’ workshops they’d like to access”

To book any of these courses please contact the Spring Centre on 01442 869550, email springcentre@stfrancis.org.uk or visit: www.stfrancis.org.uk
