Phoenix Concert Band

The Phoenix Concert Band held its annual charity concert on December 5th in Christ Church, Radlett entitled 'An evening of Film Music and Christmas Magic'.
This year the band decided to donate all proceeds from the concert to The Hospice of St Francis.

In the first half the band were dressed formally and played a selection of music from well known films. After the interval the players transformed themselves into assorted Santas, elves, and even a Christmas pudding (!) and played Christmas tunes.

The players contributed festive cakes and biscuits and, rather than suggesting a set price for refreshments, we asked for donations towards the work of the Hospice.

Audience members were very generous and the takings from tickets and refreshments came to £320. RBS, for whom one of the clarinettists works, generously offered to match the first £250 so the band was able to hand over a cheque to the Hospice for a total of £570.

Not bad for two hours of playing (not forgetting the countless hours of rehearsals, of course!) A member of the audience said afterwards “ It is such a treat to have something local and live to attend and you are such a happy bunch. I think everyone loves watching you all as well as listening”

One of the woodwind section expressed her view of the evening “We all had great fun playing in the concert. The fact that we raised so much money for The Hospice made the event even more worthwhile for us.”

Phoenix is a wind band based in Radlett and draws its members from the surrounding areas of London, Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire, Surrey and Essex.

If you would like to attend future concerts, or perhaps join the band (we welcome enquiries from brass, woodwind and percussion players who are about grade 6-7 or above), contact Chris on 020 8364 9862 or 07901 972855 www.phoenixconcertband.co.uk
