Chris Gess & Fanny Yiasoumi's 16 day trek to Base Camp Everest.

We are very fortunate to have so many fit and active supporters as so many of you choose to test your physical strength on endurance treks whilst raising money for us! Just as Fanny Yiasoumi and Chris Gess did last year.

The adventurous pair set off to the foothills of the Himalayas for the Hospice of St Francis. Both are volunteers at the Hospice, Fanny in the IPU and Chris is a home sitter for the Carers Support Team.

Last year gave them the taste for more and in October 2012 they set off on a 16 day trek to Base Camp Everest.

Flying into Kathmandu they then flew to Lukla, not for the faint hearted!

From Lukla they started their trek to Base Camp and stayed in teahouses, not heated, along the way, sharing a lot of our facilities with their Sherpas.

Their lead Sherpa has reached the top of Everest three times, so they knew they were in safe hands.

Chris commented: “The trek was a wonderful experience, even though each day was an endurance test. The people of Nepal are lovely and the country they live in is a wonder. The mountain ranges took our breath away as did the suspension bridges, convoys of Yaks, crossing the Khumbu Glacier and the cold. Wonder if any of next year’s trekkers will follow in our footsteps. We would like to thank all who sponsored us again this year. We have raised a staggering £14,000 between us.”
