Amanda's Brighton Marathon Success

On Sunday 17th April 2016 Amanda Bond, along with her friend Edwina, completed the Brighton Marathon in 5 hours and 22 minutes in memory of Amanda’s late-mother, Christine, who was cared for at the Hospice in her final days.

The pair, from West Sussex, raised over £3,000 to support The Hospice of St Francis, thanks to generous donations from friends and family.

“My Mum, Christine Summers, spent her last week at the Hospice in November 2015.  Everybody at the Hospice was so kind to us all as a family and still continues to be so caring and supportive.  I turn 50 this year and was going to run the Brighton Marathon as a personal challenge in my 50th year, but when I started training in December, I decided that the important thing would be to raise money for the Hospice as a thank you,” Explained Amanda

“My friend Edwina also turns 50 this year, and, as a more experienced runner, she offered to train and fundraise with me, to help me around the route on the day.  18 weeks of training was hard and we had many ups and downs, but we were lucky that it was a bright and sunny day in Brighton.  Friends and family turned out in force to cheer us along the way and we are so delighted to have raised over £3,000 for the Hospice of St Francis.”
