Generous to a tee |
More than 40 golfers teed off at Stocks in Aldbury last week to raise money for the Hospice of St Francis. Liz Richards, of the hospice, who organised the event, said: "It was a great day and we were very lucky with the weather. "There was a little shower but the weather was so hot no-one minded. We had some food before we went out and came back in time for the Brazil game!" The winning team was Big Jim Slades, made up of husband and wife Elliott and Laura McClements, Roy Martinez and Bill Kinniburgh. Liz said: "Donations for prizes on the day included a camera from Falcon Copier, six bottles of champagne from World Duty Free, a case of wine from Rodwells, £100 from The Digital Office and a David Leadbetter Swing Setter from Steven Halliday of Aitchisons. The food was provided by Cobbett and Keen and was delicious." Another charity golf day was held the following day by Luton-based betting company Spreadex bringing in further funds for the hospice. Liz said: "It's great that a number of people who want to support us are doing so in so many different ways. I think what's lovely is there's so many fundraising events going on where people have a good time while donating money." The current total raised by the hospice now stands at £279,083 up by more than £8,000 on last week. |
