Women flocking to walk with the stars for hospice
(Herald Express 21/6/2007)

PEDAL POWER: Sonia Waterton on her exercise bike with hospice mascot, Martin the Zebra.

A sea of 800 women will swamp the streets of Hemel Hempstead and Berkhamsted to raise money for the Hospice of St Francis on July 7.
After months of campaigning fund raisers at the hospice have finally recruited enough women to take part in Walk with the Stars - a women-only, 12-mile midnight walk helping to raise money to buy new beds for the hospice.

One of the event's organisers, Liz Richards, said: "We are amazed and delighted by the number of women who are walking for the Hospice, one from as far away as New Zealand! We really appreciate this support and look forward to a great night for the walkers and the Hospice."
One woman who will be supporting the event is 74-year-old Sonia Waterton who is blind and has problems with her balance.
Sonia may not be able to do the walk, but this has not stopped her from getting involved.

Rather than doing the walk she will be cycling the equivalent of 75 miles in a five hour cycle on an exercise bike she has in her home.
Sonia has been fund raising for the Hospice of St Francis for 25 years. She has given talks about being blind and as part of a local theatre group has performed, on several occasions, to help raise money for the charity.
Liz, said: "Sonia is an inspiration to us all and we really appreciate her commitment to the Hospice."
She added that they are still on the look out for more businesses to sponsor the event and urged people to donate by visiting www.justgiving.com/WWTS
