Prisoners scrum down for charity
(Herald Express 24/8/2006)

GAME ON: prisoners and staff at The Mount prison raised £500 during a sevens tournament.

Inmates and staff at The Mount prison in Bovingdon played host to local rugby teams for a tournament in aid of the Hospice of St Francis.

The charity fundraiser, held in June, saw PE staff and a team of inmates from the prison compete in 'sevens' games against players from local clubs.
The sevens matches involved short games based on traditional rugby but played with seven players on each side instead of the normal 15.

Winners on the day were The Fullerians, and a total of £500 was raised for the Hospice of St Francis' Dig Deep appeal - including £100 donated by prisoners at The Mount.
The rugby tournament followed a sponsored 'go to jail' event held at the prison in Molyneaux Avenue in January.

Fundraising director at the Hospice of St Francis, Sarah Thompson, said: "Following our sponsored 'go to jail night', we're absolutely delighted that the prison has decided to continue their support for our hospice."
