Robert leads the way with hospice's book of walks |
With walking boots at the ready, country lovers can take advantage of a new book launched to benefit the Hospice of St Francis. Each of the walks can be undertaken individually, and there are plenty of places for refreshment along the way. Dedicated walker Robert Rodway compiled the book and along with four friends set out from the Great Outdoors at Bourne End on Friday to walk the first of the six challenges -to the Full Moon at Hawridge. Robert's mother and father-in-law were cared for by the hospice and Robert is keen to give something back. He has been a volunteer gardener and is also a volunteer driver for the day hospice. Meanwhile, staff from Thames Valley Water raised more than £400 for the hospice by paying £1 to dress down for a day, with the company doubling the final sum. Verity Hatch, human resource administrator at Thames Valley, organised the event. She said: "I am pleased to have been able to spend time with the hospice team at the new building and see first-hand how any funds raised are invested."
