Pub landlord Peter Broom hangs on to the bucking bull at The Rose and Crown fun weekend in Hawridge.

A bumper weekend of activity at the Rose and Crown pub in Hawridge will help to swell the coffers of the Hospice of St Francis.

Organisers are confident that about £1,200 will be raised for the hospice, a registered charity, as a result of a sponsored bungee-jump on Sunday. Some 90 people lined up for the honour of doing the jump. Landlord Peter Broom said: "There was such a great atmosphere on the day and people want to do it again."

Members of the Big Dog Theatre Company, who are busy preparing to stage the popular show The Full Monty, at The Elgiva theatre, Chesham, in September also took part in the bungee jump.

Earlier, on Saturday, the pub staged an open day for the community and the event attracted more than 120 people. At the fun day there was a bucking bull challenge, bouncy castle, and tug of war, with face painting for children, as well as a barbecue.

During the evening regulars were entertained by a band, Rough Luck, who played to an enthusiastic audience.

Charlotte Kitteringham, 10, Joel Reynolds, eight, Hayley Cullen, eight, Daisy Breen, six, and Isobella Fanton, two, enjoy the slide.
