Welcome to the 2008 Palliative Care Education Programme from the Hospice of St Francis. We are delighted that you will be joining us this year for our exciting and innovative education themes. We are a multi professional education team with experience at teaching local, national and international venues. The current national health and end of life agenda requires staff to be confident and competent in a variety of skills, responsive to policy such as the NICE guidance, End of Life Strategy, Cancer Reform Strategy, Darzi review of the NHS and Long Term Conditions. Education is a key part of good clinical care and our education programme aims to deliver relevant palliative and end of life care education in an innovative and inspiring way. The Hospice of St Francis aims to build on the best of its current service, educate others in the care of the dying and keep its guiding principles of “whole person, respectful care” at the heart of all its activities. We are committed to promoting the culture and philosophy of hospice care through education. Accreditation and Professional Relevance: All our sessions are linked into the National Knowledge and Skills Framework Core and Specific Dimensions. Where appropriate continuing professional development accreditation is also sought from the relevant Royal Colleges. Our Medical Master Classes are linked into the curriculum for Specialist Palliative Care and Vocational Training Scheme for General Practitioners. All sessions are accompanied with a relevant certificate of attendance and resource packs. Education Themes for 2008 – Educating for Excellence This year our sessions are based in 6 main themes
