At any one time we care for a maximum of eleven inpatients who may need pain relief or control of other distressing symptoms, or who, for a variety of reasons, cannot be cared for in their own homes. The average length of stay is normally between seven and ten days. One bed may be booked in advance for a one week stay in order to give carers of  the chronically ill an opportunity for a holiday or a break.
