Do I have to be a Christian to come into the Hospice?
Who can I turn to at the Hospice for spiritual help?
Can my own vicar visit?
Can we organise a service at the Hospice?
Is it a Christian Chapel?
No! Although many hospices started out as Christian institutions we now have no allegiance to any particular faith and welcome people of all faiths or none. We recognise that people find meaning and value in their life in many different ways, religion being just one of them.
All our staff are trained to listen and sometimes just sharing worries and difficult questions is enough. Of course many questions have no answers but it is the expression of worries that can lead to a sense of peace. Our staff Chaplain is also around to talk to patients on the Inpatient Unit and in Day Care.
Yes, we welcome spiritual companions from the community. We have had visiting Priests, Rabbis and Imams from the local mosque. We welcome whoever might help you in your difficult times.
Yes, we can certainly do this, either in conjunction with our own Chaplain or your own religious guide. We do have regular Communion at the Hospice.
We have also had wedding blessings, christenings and other special ceremonies in our Chapel.
We believe we have created a special space for people of all faiths or none to reflect and find peace. We have objects from all the major religions to help create the atmosphere you need.
