AUGUST 2010
Inpatient Unit
Our Inpatient Unit volunteers work on a rota basis and provide cover from 10am to 8pm , over 3 shifts, 7 days a week. Most of our volunteers in this role work one or two shifts a month, and there are always two volunteers on at a time. The duties include taking meals and drinks to patients, welcoming visitors to the Unit and doing the kitchen washing up. A CRB is required for this role and volunteers receive training and support from nursing and kitchen staff.
We particularly need volunteers to work afternoon shifts, 2-6pm, on Thursdays and Fridays and also have vacancies for some evening shifts.
Admin Support
A volunteer is needed for Friday mornings to assist with a variety of administrative tasks to support our Inpatient Unit secretaries.
Carer Support
We are looking for volunteers to join our existing Carer Support Team, visiting patients in their own homes and giving their carers a break at the same time - see
Carer Support Team
Shops
Our shop assistant volunteers work on a rota basis to fit in with their other commitments; this is usually one morning or afternoon a week or fortnight, but we can offer some flexibility. If you would like to know more about what the work involves, why not pop in to your local shop and have a chat with the Manager or a current volunteer; you can also pick up an application form.
The locations of our 7 shops can be found on this website.

Hairdressers
Our volunteer hairdressers work within our Day Hospice on Tuesdays and Thursdays and usually come in for half a day, once or twice a month, providing a service which many of our patients are unable to access outside the Hospice. The Day Hospice has a room assigned for hairdressing, with all the equipment and resources required.
Fundraising
The Fundraising Team would love to hear from anyone who can help out by
- assisting with major events - putting up signs and posters and marshalling
- providing occasional support for fetes and stalls
- becoming a Hospice Ambassador - speaking about the work of the Hospice at external events; appropriate training is given.
- taking over a Homebox Collection
- collecting homeboxes from co-ordinators and bringing these into the Hospice for counting (twice a year, using your own car)
- collecting tubs from shops and clubs
- seeking out new places for our tubs
Do contact Voluntary Services for more information on any of the above or download and complete an application form.
