The Hospice of St Francis supports the whole family offering practical, emotional and spiritual support to the whole family, including children and teenagers.
When a family member has a diagnosis of a serious illness, everybody in the family is affected. It takes time to adjust and find ways of managing the illness and treatment.
There are many questions a patient might have including:
- What and when to talk to the children about what’s going on?
- How to manage financially?
- Who is there to help care for the patient?
The Supportive Care Team is specially trained in counselling and family work. Counsellors, social workers, family therapist, art therapist and a team of highly skilled and trained volunteers offer:
- support for carers
- support for families
- counselling and therapies
- welfare and benefits guidance
- spiritual support
- bereavement support
- services of thanksgiving and remembrance
- support for children
